The village is centrally located between Uruguay most remarkable tourist hotspots. You can always enjoy the beach life: the wide white sandy beaches stretch miles out.
Next to the village, right at the beach, a lagoon makes itself excellent for swimming, fishing, sailing and canoeing.
The river flows along the amazing 10 meters high dunes which are constantly changing in shape and position.
Cabo Polonio
A walk of about 10 kilometers along the coast takes you to the nearby former pirate village of Cabo Polonio.
Here is a large sea lion colony year round to observe, there is also the possibility to eat in the restaurant overlooking the sea.
The return to Valizas can be done by public transport. For a small fee you big four-wheel drive trucks drive you across the dunes down to the paved road. From here you are back in Valizas in 15 minutes by public transport.
Another highlight is the national park "Bosques the Ombues. This park is easy accesible by public transport, and is about 5 kilometers from Valizas. You can explore the park with a guide. With a boat you enter the Park to explore the last stretch on foot.
This park differs from other parks by the abundance of birds and the presence of the Ombuestree. This whimsical and very old trees with a trunk circumference of often several meters, are characterized by the sponge-like structure of wood.
Barra de Valizas lies on the edge of the 'palm pampa's' . This environment can be explored in a relaxed way by car, motorbike or bicycle/
The tens of thousands of palm trees in the region are very beautiful and can bring you some nice photos. En route you can choose from one of the many lakes to picnic or simply enjoy the view!
While exploring this region the chances might be that you spot a deer, a Nandu (an ostrich type of bird) or many other species of birds. You will definitely see a gaucho. Gauchos are the cowboys of the pampas and are traditionally dressed and equipped with horses, boots, cows a dog and a hat. They will always wave to you!
Thirty five and respectively forty kms. south of Valizas are the towns of La Pedrera and La Paloma. Do you love parties and nightlife? Then, these towns are certainly worth a few nights to spend. These places are visited by the youth of Uruguay and Argentina who spend their holidays and parties into the late hours.
